Bushmills At War Exhibition - July 17-25

REMINDER

Amanda Moreno, head of collections at the Royal Irish Fusiliers Museum in Armagh, Keith Beattie of Ballymoney Museum and Roamer of the News Letter will speak at the opening of the exhibition on Saturday.

There will be a new section this year on some sailors who were washed ashore in North Antrim during World War I. They are commemorated by two headstones at Billy Parish Church, four at Ballintoy Parish Church, four at Bonamargy Friary, Ballycastle, and one on Rathlin Island.

Robert Thompson has obtained photos of each headstone and some details of what happened to the ships. He's now looking for additional information about the sailors' families.

Hillsborough Garden Party

Glenda and Nora

Glenda Rodgers was invited by Joan Christie, Lord Lieutenant of Co Antrim, to attend the recent Garden Party at Hillsborough Castle. She was accompanied by her sister, Nora.

Joan introduced Glenda to Sophie, Countess of Wessex and told her about Glenda's WW II research and her book, "The Fallen of the Causeway Coast". They then had a five minute chat about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

The weather was dismal but this enjoyable occasion will remain long in the memories of these two quests from Bushmills.
